Your dog comes to the beach, the park, the weekend away. Your back seat shouldn't have to prove it. The Backseat Buddy is a quilted cover that hangs across the whole back row, so the mud, sand, fur and drool stay on the cover instead of soaking into your seats.

Four covers in one

Hook the front straps over the headrests and it hangs as a full hammock, with the side wings up and the footwell bridged so there's nowhere to slide into. Unclip the front and it lies flat as a bench cover for a quick trip. Move it to the boot and it works as a cargo liner. Take it out of the car altogether, unfold it flat, and it's a picnic mat for the park.

Built for actual dogs

The quilted top is 600D Oxford with a water-resistant TPU layer underneath, so spills, slobber and wet fur sit on the surface instead of going through. A non-slip backing and seat anchors keep the whole thing planted, and the zip-off side flaps come up over the door trim where claws do the most damage. Two seat-belt openings mean your dog's harness can still clip in, and the headrest straps use heavy-duty buckles with a lock so they don't work loose halfway to the beach.

Somewhere for everything

Four storage pockets run across the front barrier, so the lead, the treats, a spare roll of poo bags and a folded umbrella all have a home instead of rolling around the footwell.

Wet dog? Fine.

Shake it off, wipe it down with a damp towel, or run the vacuum over it. When it needs a proper clean it goes straight in the washing machine. Hang it to dry rather than putting it in the dryer.

Measure before you order

The deck is 137 x 145cm (54" x 57"), which covers the full back row of most sedans, wagons, SUVs and MPVs. The side wings are 36cm, the front barrier is 45cm, and the front drop is 55cm.

Where it won't work: it needs a continuous bench-style back seat to hang across. If your back row is a pair of separate bucket seats, or there's an open gap with no bench underneath, this isn't the right cover. Very wide utes and large three-row SUVs may leave the outer edges short. Measure the width of your back seat before you order — it's a two-minute job that saves a return.
