Backseat Buddy Dog Car Seat Cover
Take the dog. Keep the back seat.
A quilted hammock that straps to the headrests, bridges the footwell and covers the door trim, so the hair, mud and claw marks land on it instead of your upholstery.

The real problem
The back seat took the worst of it
Hair works its way into the weave and stays there, mud dries into the stitching, and there's a set of claw marks down the door trim from every time he's got excited about arriving. None of it fully comes out, and all of it comes off the resale value.
So the dog starts staying home. Not because you don't want him there, but because you've stopped wanting to deal with the car afterwards, and that's a rubbish reason to leave him behind.
Fitted in about two minutes
No tools, and nothing has to come out of the car.
-
1
Strap the headrests
Two straps go over the rear headrests and pull tight into heavy-duty lock buckles.
-
2
Anchor it in the crease
Push the seat anchors into the gap where the seat base meets the back so the deck can't ride forward.
-
3
Zip the wings up
Lift the side flaps over the door trim and zip them to the deck.
-
4
Open the belt slots
Two openings in the deck let the seat belts and your dog's harness clip through as normal.
Four covers in one
Clipped front and back, the deck bridges the footwell so there's nowhere to slide down into.
Unclip the front and it lies flat across the seat, for the trips where a person is back there too.
Move it to the boot and it takes the wet gear, the sand and the dog after the beach.
Out of the car entirely, on the grass or the sand, then shaken out and folded away.
What you're actually getting
A quilted 600D Oxford face, a water-resistant TPU layer in the middle and a non-slip backing underneath.
54″ × 57″ of cover, with 36 cm side wings and a 45 cm front barrier standing up between the seats.
They come up over the door trim where the claw marks are, and unzip when you only want the deck.
Heavy-duty lock buckles at the top, anchors that push down into the seat crease at the bottom.
The belts come straight through the deck, so a harness still clips in the normal way.
Two flat and two cylindrical across the front barrier. A lead, treats, poo bags and a folded umbrella.
Backseat Buddy or the old towel
Most people are using a beach towel or a picnic rug right now. Here's the honest difference.

Before you order
Will it fit my car
The deck is 137 cm across and 145 cm front to back, which covers a standard bench back seat in most sedans, wagons, hatches and mid-size SUVs. Take a tape measure across your own back seat before you order, it takes ten seconds and settles it.

Where it won't work. It needs a continuous bench-style back seat to sit on, so it won't work on separate rear bucket seats, or where there's an open gap with no bench behind the front seats. Very wide utes and large three-row SUVs can leave the outer edges a bit short.
Questions people ask before they buy
Is this going to keep my dog safe in the car?
No, and we won't pretend it does. It's a seat cover, not a restraint, and it hasn't been crash-tested. The hammock shape closes off the footwell so there's nowhere to slide down into, but that's about comfort and mess, not protection. Keep him in a proper harness clipped to the seat belt.
How long will delivery take?
It ships from an overseas warehouse, so 1 to 3 business days to process, then 8 to 15 business days to your door. It's tracked the whole way and delivery is free worldwide with no minimum. If you're driving up the coast this weekend, it won't make it.
How do I clean it?
Most days you shake it off, wipe it with a damp towel, or run the vacuum over it. When it needs more than that it goes in the machine, then hang it to dry rather than putting it through the dryer.
Will it slip around under a big dog?
It's held at the headrests with lock buckles, anchored down into the seat crease, and the backing is non-slip. A 35 kg dog turning circles will still shift it a little and you push it back into the crease. It's a soft cover, so there's no board or hard bottom keeping it rigid.
Can my dog still wear his harness?
Yes. There are two openings in the deck for the seat belts, so the belt comes through and the harness clips in exactly the way it does now. You don't have to choose between the cover and the harness, and you shouldn't.
What if it doesn't fit my car?
Measure first, because it needs a bench-style back seat and won't suit separate rear buckets. If it still isn't right you've got 30 days to send it back, on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Dewspell is a registered Australian sole trader, so there's a real person and a real ABN behind that.
